Building Inspectors

Building inspectors are required to have a governing document to perform inspections on residential projects. Home builds and remodels alike are governed by the IRC and therefore the building inspector is required to be well versed on all aspects of the IRC. This provides a clear and concise guideline to inspect from. Although some municipalities can add to the requirements of the IRC none can take away. On the contractors part it is imperative to use the IRC as they work through the project. This keeps them in line with what the inspector is going to come out and look for. Be familiar with the building inspector and look to them for answers in areas that may be gray in the building or remodeling process as they have the ultimate authority on those areas. The building inspector can also provide any specific addendums or supplements that the municipality may have. Most of the supplemental code requirements will be dictated by the specific area and community concerns.
